Mammoth Lakes Ca. - Basecamp 1

We woke up before dawn (this happens everyday from this point forward). The day began with our daily coffee courtesy of Cafe Moto then down to the Jeep which was tucked away in the garage of the Village Lodge in Mammoth Lakes Ca. Warm, cozy, and clean… we got loaded up then made our way to Tech inspection at McCoy Station which towered above our current location at 9,630 feet.

We were lucky that neither of us were effected by the altitude. Tech inspection was quick and easy thanks to the few changes we had scrambled to make the day before. We sped through the required equipment inspections and rally preparations such as checking our medic kit, helmets, insurance, media packages etc (a lot of this had been covered the day before)… the start line came quick… right after lunch we said good bye to our friends, sponsor representatives, and family who had come to support us, and we were off!

It was a long on-road transit up north through Tonopah Nevada where we took our sweet time enjoying the scenery. We saw wild horses on the way and made a few stops to check out abandoned towns. Our first basecamp was located outside of Area 51 on the scenic Fallini Ranch where they raise cattle. Cows would be a regular sighting for the next few days… and on the menu as well! We had burgers for dinner and settled into our new routine.
